FAQ
LOGISTICAL Questions
We know that therapy can feel like a big step, and we want to make the process as clear and comfortable as possible for you. Here are answers to some common questions. If you don't see your question here, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to chat.
No, we are an out-of-network (OON) provider. If you have insurance, we recommend that you contact your provider to check on your reimbursement options. Many clients find that they’re able to submit claims for reimbursement, depending on their plan and deductible, and some are reimbursed for up to 80% of each session cost. We will provide you with necessary documentation to submit to your insurance company, as well as guidance on how to navigate it all.
Choosing an out-of-network therapist offers more flexibility, privacy, and control over your treatment plan. Unlike insurance-covered therapy, which often comes with rigid timelines,
treatment plans, and limitations, going OON allows for a more personalized approach without the pressure of meeting quotas or working within insurance constraints. You'll also experience less wait time, flexible and tailored approach, more high-quality and individualized care, and comprehensive support.
Therapy is a valuable investment in your personal growth and future success. Prioritizing your mental health leads to improved relationships, work performance, and overall happiness— benefits that extend well beyond the therapy room and your present life.
The frequency of sessions depends on your unique needs and goals. We recommend meeting at least weekly to ensure more immediate results, maintain momentum, and cultivate a sense of consistency and structure in your journey.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Therapy duration varies based on the issues being addressed and your level of engagement in the process. For some, therapy may be a few months, while others may find long-term therapy beneficial. We’ll regularly check in with you about your goals to ensure we’re heading in the right direction.
Absolutely. Many clients find it just as impactful, with the added convenience of being able to engage from the comfort of their own space. Whether you're in the office or online, the therapeutic process remains focused on your goals and needs. We use secure, user-friendly
platforms that foster a safe environment for meaningful discussions.
Yes—your privacy is taken very seriously in therapy. What you share in sessions is kept strictly confidential and is protected by both ethical guidelines and legal standards. No one—not family members, employers, or outside parties—can access your therapy records without your written consent.
There are only a few rare situations where confidentiality must be broken, such as if there’s a concern about serious harm to yourself or others, or if there’s suspected abuse involving a minor, elder, or dependent adult. In those cases, only the necessary information is shared, and the intention is always to protect safety.
If you ever have questions or concerns about your confidentiality, please don’t hesitate to ask. Your comfort and trust are essential to the work we do together.
We understand that life happens, so if you need to cancel, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a cancellation fee. This allows us to offer the time to someone else who may need it. We’ll do our best to accommodate any changes, but advance notice is always appreciated!
Based on our current licensure, we can only serve clients in New York and Connecticut.
INFORMATIONAL Questions
Therapy is for anyone—whether you’re dealing with a specific challenge or simply want to understand yourself better. If you’re questioning your mental health or well-being, it’s always a good idea to explore therapy as an option
Counseling is often shorter-term, with very specific goals, while therapy (or psychotherapy) is usually a longer-term process aimed at deeper insight and change. Both approaches are helpful depending on the issues you're facing, but therapy tends to focus more on understanding underlying issues and creating long-term change, while counseling tends to be more goal oriented with a focus on resolving current challenges.
Medication can be helpful for managing symptoms, but therapy addresses the root causes of those symptoms. While medication can help with immediate relief, therapy offers long-lasting benefits by helping you understand and change the patterns that contribute to your struggles. Combining therapy with medication (when appropriate) can be a powerful and effective approach to healing—offering both the emotional tools and biological support needed to create lasting change and relief.
- PSYCHOLOGISTS are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions, typically through therapy. They hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.).
- PSYCHIATRISTS are medical doctors who can prescribe medication and often take a more medical approach to mental health care.
- PSYCHOTHERAPISTS are trained professionals who provide therapy to individuals, couples, and families. They may hold various degrees (e.g., LCSW, LMFT, LMHC) and have different approaches to treatment.
PROCESS-RELATED Questions
Not at all. Seeking therapy doesn’t mean you’re damaged—it means you’re human. Life can be overwhelming, complicated, and messy, and reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you—it’s about helping you understand yourself more deeply, navigate challenges with clarity, and grow in the direction that feels most authentic to you.
A strong therapeutic relationship is key to success, and it’s important to feel comfortable with your therapist. During our consultation call and first session, we'll further discuss your needs and goals to ensure we’re aligned. If for any reason you don’t feel like we're the right fit, we’ll work together to find the best person for you.
You don’t need to do anything special to prepare; just come ready to talk about what brought you to therapy and what you hope to achieve. We might your what’s going on at present, past experiences, your relationships, and anything else that feels important for your healing process. The goal is to feel heard and understood.
Very! We listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, and offer honest, supportive feedback to help you understand yourself more clearly. We’ll challenge you when needed—always with care—so you can grow without feeling pushed too far. We’ll also hold you accountable while making space for the setbacks and stumbles that are a natural part of real change.
Every session is an opportunity to explore your challenges, your patterns, and your goals. For example, if you’re struggling with anxiety, we might talk about your triggers and work on strategies to cope in the moment. Over time, we’ll dig deeper into how your past influences your present, and work together to make lasting changes.
There is never any pressure to come in with something specific to say—some of the most powerful insights often come from simply letting your mind wander and speaking freely. Following whatever thoughts or feelings arise in the moment can open the door to meaningful self-discovery, clarity, and healing.
No. We will never force you to talk about anything you're not ready to share. Therapy is a safe, gradual process, and we’ll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
That's okay! In the beginning, many people are unsure of what exactly they want to focus on. We can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences together to identify the most important areas to address.
That’s completely okay, and more common than you might think. Vulnerability can feel scary, especially if you’ve been hurt before, taught to keep things inside, or simply aren’t used to opening up. Building trust takes time, and therapy meets you exactly where you are.
You don’t need to have it all figured out or come in baring your soul on day one. In fact, some of the most powerful moments in therapy happen not when you come in with a perfectly formed thought, but when you allow yourself to speak freely, even if it feels uncertain. You might be surprised by what surfaces when you give yourself permission to be real—and how freeing that can be.
We may suggest reading material, journaling exercises, or behavior changes between sessions. Homework is designed to help reinforce what we’ve worked on in therapy. However, it's always optional, and we’ll tailor it to what feels most helpful to you.
As therapy progresses, you’ll start to notice changes in yourself—whether it's feeling grounded improving relationships, or gaining more confidence. Regular check-ins will help
track your progress and give you a chance to share how things are going. If you’re ever unsure, we’ll discuss it together.
Yes, but on your own terms. Therapy is about growth, and when you’ve achieved your goals or feel equipped to handle life’s challenges, we’ll have a conversation about wrapping up. Therapy is meant to empower you to continue your journey independently. The decision is always yours, and we’ll work together to determine when it feels like the right time.
In therapy, you’re at the center—but you’re not doing it alone. Our relationship is a co-creation: We're a real person in the room with you, and how we interact can shed light on patterns in your other relationships. Unlike with friends or family, the space is designed just for your growth, but it’s also shaped by our dynamic—how you feel around us, how we respond, and what comes up between us.
This space is built around clear boundaries and professionalism—so while our feelings and
responses may be part of the process, they’ll never take priority over your needs or limit your growth. This creates a rare kind of relationship: one where your experience is fully held, explored, and supported without guilt, pressure, or personal expectations.
IWe are committed to creating a space where you feel seen and respected, no matter your
background. We believe that everyone brings unique experiences to therapy, and we approach each session with humility, openness, and a deep commitment to learning from you. Your experiences are valid, and we honor them as part of the healing process.
Life is busy, and adding one more thing can feel overwhelming. But therapy isn’t just another task on your to-do list—it’s time set aside just for you. Investing in your emotional well being can make everything else feel more manageable and grounded. We’ll work with your schedule to find a time that fits, whether that’s early mornings, during a lunch break, while you’re folding your laundry, or during a walk.
Making space for your mental health isn’t selfish—it’s one of the most sustainable, supportive things you can do for yourself and those around you.
It’s a thoughtful and important question. Therapy has been extensively researched and proven to be highly effective in improving emotional well-being, relationships, and overall life satisfaction. In addition, our clients have experienced powerful transformations—gaining clarity, breaking old patterns, improving communication, and finding a greater sense of peace and confidence.
